Coach JR is originally from McDonough, GA. JR comes to Koa with many years of experience, including high school ball, college, and professional hoops! After being ranked the #2 player in the state of Virginia by Virginiaprep.com in June of 2002, he attended The George Washington University to continue his playing career. As a sophomore, he led the team to their first ever A-10 tournament championship. At the end of the 2005-2006 season JR was drafted by the Dallas Mavericks with the 58th pick and traded to the Los Angeles Lakers on the same night.
JR found his love for coaching and developing young talent 4 years ago when he founded Pinnock Player Development in his hometown of McDonough, Georgia. He partnered with NUMA hoops to work several camps and clinics, and in 2013 led the 13 and Under Atlanta Celtics to a top 20 ranking at AAU Nationals in Memphis, Tennessee. He’s excited to share his passion and expertise in the sport with Koa athletes!
Matt is a professional basketball player, having played most recently in Morocco. He has also played in Costa Rica, Lebanon, Cyprus, Turkey, Finland, Luxembourg, and Estonia.
Prior to playing professionally, Matt graduated from Winthrop University where he played 3 years of division 1 basketball. He transfered into Winthrop University from St. Bonaventure University. His basketball career has allowed him to play against some top-notch competition and many ranked opponents.
Matt has been training, coaching, and mentoring athletes for 5 years. While he’s new to the Koa staff, he’s not new to the game, and is excited to work with the Koa hoops program on private instruction.
