Tony Korson

Koa Founder and COE (Chief of Everything!) Coach Tony is a local boy, born and raised in Bethesda, Maryland. He attended Walt Whitman High School where, as a senior, he was a Washington Post All Met selection as a pitcher/outfielder.  Coach Tony went on to play ball at Florida Gulf Coast University, where he holds the single season ERA record with a meager 1.39.  Coach Tony also played for the Northwood’s League Champions Madison Mallards. When he’s not on the field, Coach Tony enjoys surfing, and is a 12 handicap with his sticks.

Mike Brownbaseballfootball

Mike Brown, Koa's Director of Community Partnerships and Director of Player Development, is a native of Davis, California and grew up playing football, baseball and basketball.  In high school he excelled in football and baseball, earning 4 separate All Conference honors.   Mike focused on baseball in college, first playing for the Cuesta College (San Luis Obispo, CA) Cougars.  During his 2 years at Cuesta, Mike set the all time career batting average record at a .409 clip, becoming the first player in school history to hit over .400 for a career!!  Mike left the Golden State and transferred cross country to the University of Kentucky.  Playing with the Wildcats, his team won the Southeastern Conference title in Mike’s first year on campus.  In 2007 Mike completed his Wildcat career on a strong note, hitting .369 his senior year, good for 8th in the league.  He stayed on board UK's coaching staff after his player career, where he worked as the student assistant.  ‘Sports for Life’ is Coach Mike’s creed!!

Cristobal Matabaseball

Cristobal Mata was born in  El Tigre, Venezuela. Originally signed by the Cleveland Indians in 2003 at 16 years old, Coach Chris spent the 2004-2005 seasons in the Dominican Summer league. In 2007, he was signed by the Philadelphia Phillies as an amateur free agent with an average of 9.4 Strikeouts/9.0 Innings Pitched for the Tronconero Phillies in the Venezuelan Summer League. Chrisl spent the 2008 season with Gulf Coast League Phillies, and in 2009 and 2010 he played with the Lake Erie Crushers in the Frontier League. Coach Chrisl brings his professional experience, passion for the game, and coaching enthusiasm to Koa.

Adam Tidball

Adam is Koa's travel baseball go-to guy, as well as the lead hitting and fielding instructor. He graduated from the University of Richmond in 2005 with a degree in Business Management. As a sophomore, he helped the University's baseball team break the school record in wins (53-13) and ranking (9th in the country) and led them to their first appearance in the Super Regionals in school history. He was top 10 in career doubles, home runs, and slugging percentage at the University of Richmond before being drafted by the Chicago Cubs after his junior season. He graduated from Georgetown Prep in 2000 where he was an All-IAC, All-County, and All-Met athlete in Football, Basketball, and Baseball.

Jeff Rodgers

Coach Jeff is a graduate of Lafayette College (Division 1), where he was a three year starting infielder. During his junior season, Coach Jeff hit .379 and was named first team All Patriot League. Coach Jeff is our on-deck “braniac,” holding an undergraduate degree in Economics and Business, and a Masters of Business Administration from the University of Notre Dame. He’s one of those guys who gets it done on the field and in the office!

Skip Talarak baseball

A graduate of Langley High, Skip Talarak contributed to an amazingly hot team!!  Skip helped the Saxons earn three All Conference Baseball titles and the awesome All Region title X2!!  After graduating from Langley, Skip attended Tusculum College where he earned a Sport Management and Coaching degree and of course, where he played more ball!  During Skip’s tenure, the Pioneers were three-time All SAC Conference, All Region, and a two-time Conference Champion!!  When he graduated, Skip held the single season records for walks-47; doubles-26; RBI’s-68; and runs–68!!  When he’s not coaching on the Koa fields and motivating our ball players, Skip is pursuing a teacher certification program at UVA.

Carson Kenney baseball

Coach Kenney is a local athlete who graduated from Walter Johnson High School in 2010.  At WJ he was a 3 year varsity baseball starter and captain junior AND senior years.  Carson was named Honorable Mention All-Met his senior year and helped Montgomery County win the "Battle of the Counties" All-Star Game in 2010.  Currently a sophomore, Coach Kenney will be transferring to Trinity College in Hartford, CT to play baseball and continue working on his Mechanical Engineering major.  A part of the Koa family for a long time, Carson played ball for Tony at Next Level, Koa’s predecessor.  Carson’s perspective on coaching at Koa is, “Coaching is great because you get to help younger kids learn to play sports the right way as well as help yourself learn more about the game too. “

Josh Figueroa an all-around athlete, excelled in football, basketball, and baseball from childhood throughout high school in Texas where he was born and raised. For the past 4 years, 2 of those years with Koa Sports, he has been successfully coaching basketball and baseball.  Josh’s motto is to help all children not only become the best athlete possible but to grow and prosper as successful young adults as well.  Coach Figueroa loves sports with a passion and is a wonderful communicator and listener.  He sets realistic goals for his teams and strives for success.  No doubt Coach Figueroa will help you become the best you can be!

While earning degrees in Political Science and History, Coach Stephen played 2 years of club baseball at Penn State. Hulick also played 2 seasons in the Nation's oldest semi-pro wood bat league in Philadelphia. A native of Beaufort, SC, Stephen lettered in baseball, football, and wrestling in high school. He has been coaching for over 6 years and has developed current major league talent. Coach Stephen loves working with all ages. He currently lives in Washington, DC.

Michael Evans baseball

Born and raised in Central Florida, Michael Evans has been a NOVA resident for almost two years. He was a 4 sport varsity athlete in high school and went on to play baseball at a community college in Central Florida for one year before a shoulder injury caused Mike to hang up the cleats and glove. Now he’s a student at George Mason studying sports management and business and of course, coaching baseball! When he’s not on a ball field, you can find this dude in the water!! Surfing’s been a huge part of his life since he was a kid, plus he enjoys wakeboarding and fishing.

Coach Mike’s motto – “Practice makes Permanent.”  His coaching goal is to make sure his players are practicing in an effective, professional, and safe manner that will allow them to have fun and have the opportunity to play at a higher level.

Brian Brewer baseball

Local player Coach Brian Brewer's  been the Assistant Baseball Coach at Hammond HS for the last 2 years and the team has gone a combined 35-7 with a county title and regional championship. A Hammond HS grad himself, Brian was 3rd Base and closer with a career average of .475 (31 career homeruns) and a career ERA of 1.91 with 94 Strikes in 62 career innings!!  His 13 HR’s in a season stands as the state public school record.  Coach Brewer was honored 3 times as All Howard County Met and All Baltimore Sun Met and 2 times as All Washington Post Met.  He was Co-MVP at Hammond while they were ranked #22 in USA Today. Brian chose to play for UNC Wilmington and his sophomore year the team earned the  #4 ranking for NCAA team ERA (3.10).  After transferring to Towson, he was part of the 2005 team that played for the CAA Championship

When he’s not coaching for Koa, Coach Brewer is a PE teacher in Baltimore County.  He’s a HUGE Redskins fan and enjoys fishing and playing golf in his free time!!

Drew Somervillebaseballfootball

A 2006 Landon graduate, Drew Somerville was a 2 sport letterman.  He was All Conference in football AND baseball his senior year, and this Bear won back to back IAC Titles in football (Jr & Sr years).  Drew also led the Baseball Bears his Senior year to their 2nd IAC title in 30 years.  After Landon, Drew attended Gettysburg College where he continued with football and baseball for 2 years.  Coach Drew will be transferring to Va. Tech where he plans to try to walk onto the Hokie ball team.  Coaching the awesome Koa kids has re-ignited Coach Drew’s passion for playing ball!!

Brandon Casamassimabaseball

Coach Brandon defines versatile player -- he started at seven different positions and batted in every spot in the order during he college baseball career! As a freshman, Brandon attended Grayson Jr. College in Dennison, TX where he was the starting shortstop. He then received a scholarship to Marshall University in Huntington, WV where he played for the Herd. During his 3 years at Marshall, Brandon cemented himself in the MU career record books by finishing in the Top 10 in four categories. Casamassima ranks 7th in MU hstory in at bats (573), 6th in runs scored (123), 11th in doubles (32) and in games played (156). He had a career total of 32 home runs.

After his senior year, Brandon worked with the Marshall Univ. baseball team where he coached and worked as Director of Operations. And by the way, Coach Brandon's no slouch -- he received is Business Management degree and Master of Human Resources with an overall 3.72 GPA.

Coach John is in his third year as a student at The American University located in Washington D.C, where he majoring in Business Administration and is the captain of his very successful club baseball team. John attended Oratory Prep in Summit, New Jersey, and graduated from Winston Churchill High School in 2008, where he lettered in Basketball, Soccer and was the captain of the Varsity Baseball Team. John has been with Koa since 2007 and considers Koa Sports the best job a college kid can ask for. He loves working with kids and making them the best student-athletes on and off the field!!

Adam Weinstein baseballfootball

Adam Weinstein was born and raised in Westfield, NJ, where he attended Westfield HS and played varsity baseball, football, and he wrestled.  Adam also pitched and played center field for the Union County, NJ power Blue Devils for four seasons.  He went on to play club baseball at George Washington University and run the GW Law School softball program for 2 years, before graduating with his JD in 2009.

A DC area baseball team coach for many years, Adam's coaching experience includes 4 years as a little league coach for teams in Friendship Heights. When not practicing law or coaching his Koa teams, Coach Adam can frequently be seen in his Koa green NY Jets jersey supporting his favorite football team!

Al Davisbaseballfootball

Al Davis parlayed his gift as a NYC high school baseball and football standout at Springfield Gardens HS in Queens into a degree in physical education while playing baseball at Norfolk State University. After college he served in the US Navy in Operation Desert Storm / Desert Shield . 

While living in NYC, Al was Chairman of the Board of a 43-year-old scholastic and sports program that is responsible for 500 boys and girls. Coach Al is certified as a Football Official and Baseball Umpire and he's a member of the National Association of Sports Officials (NASO). Al has the ability to teach various sport practices and games as well as assist players in finding their weaknesses and strengthening them. With an extensive knowledge of multiple sports rules and regulations, Al is able to share that knowledge with Koa athletes. Before joining Koa, Al also coached football on the high school level at Flushing High School in (NYC) and has remained a consultant to the program since relocating to this area two years ago.

Growing up in the Washington DC Area, Coach Marques lettered 3 years in baseball at St. Johns College High school in Northwest DC. He earned All Conference honors as a senior. While at SJCHS, Marques played football and basketball as well. After graduation, Coach Marques received a scholarship for baseball to UMES but decided to go to ECU where he played club baseball. He eventually transferred to NC A&T where he earned a business degree. Since college Marques has played in adult summer woodbat leagues. Coach Marques enjoys both playing and coaching kids in baseball, basketball, AND football!

Tim Cahn baseball

Coach Tim grew up in New Jersey and was all about sports from an early age. In high school he played FOUR varsity sports -- baseball, soccer, lacrosse and track. After graduating high school, Tim went on to Vanderbilt University where he played one season each of club baseball and club lacrosse. For the past seven years, Tim has also helped coach youth baseball players.


Ben Pfinsgraff baseball

Ben was a three year starter (right handed pitcher) at the University of Maryland, after which he was drafted by the Philadelphia Phillies in the 2006 MLB draft.  Ben made a couple of all star appearances while playing in NY-Penn League.  Ben recently was accepted to the Darden School of Business (UVA), where he will pursue his MBA in the fall of 2010!   Ben has a huge passion for coaching baseball, and focuses on mechanics, the mental game of baseball, and injury prevention.

Coach Tim heads up Koa’s flag football program and also coaches some of our youth basketball and baseball teams.  He went to Arlington High School just outside of Boston, MA where he was a three-sport athlete in baseball, basketball, and football.  Tim won intramural championships in flag football and basketball while at Boston College, where he graduated with a Bachelor’s degree in Communications in 2007.  Tim once trained with star quarterback of the Atlanta Falcons Matt Ryan while at BC and told us “Every pass I caught from Matt made my hands hurt.”  Tim has tons of sports experience.  He interned with ESPN radio in college and was on the field for the 2004 and 2007 World Series at Fenway Park and the '04 and '08 AFC Championships at Gillette Stadium in Foxboro, MA.  Coach Tim fits right in with the Koa green  -- he’s a die-hard Celtics fan!!

Dan Wolff baseball football

Dan, or just “Wolff” as the kids call him, is another Whitman graduate and then went on to High Point University, and finished with a degree in Sports Management.  Wolff teaches baseball and flag football.  He currently works as an Assistant Football Coach and an Assistant Wrestling Coach at Walt Whitman High School.  Wolff is a big believer in giving back to the community, and has served for many years in the Big Brother, Little Brother program.  Wolff has also coached at the YMCA.

If you’re a Cowboys fan, you better stay away from Wolff … he’s diehard for the Skins!

A 2000 graduate of Watkins Mill high school, Tim Nori also attended Gaithersburg High school.  He lettered in three sports while in high school and played on eight state playoff football and seven state playoff baseball teams.  Tim started his college years at West Virginia University and transferred to Salisbury University where he earned a BA in Communications with a minor in coaching focusing on baseball and football.  By day, Tim is a General Para Educator working in the math, history and science departments at Walter Johnson HS.  Coach Tim spent two years as a volunteer in the Salisbury University athletic department working on the strength and conditioning staff.  After that Tim joined the football staff at Parkside High School for one year to turn around a program from a two and eight season to an eight and three season and a trip to the Maryland state 2A playoffs. 

Since returning to the metro area three years ago, Tim has been an Asst. Coach for Walter Johnson Varsity Footballand and the head coach for the Winston Churchill HS Junior Varsity baseball team.  Finally, Tim is pursuing his certification in Physical Education Masters in coaching.When he's not teaching or coaching, Tim loves spending time with his family.

Meet Coach Andrew, a 2000 graduate of Good Counsel in Wheaton, MD.  A standout pitcher for the Falcons, Andrew was named All County while at Good Counsel.  He continued playing baseball on club teams first as an undergraduate at UMD (Architecture Degree) and then in graduate school at Georgia Tech (Masters in Architecture) and captained his teams at both schools! 

When he’s not designing structures, Coach Andrew builds on the skills and talents of our Koa athletes to take them to the next level!!

A.J. Board baseball

Coach AJ is a graduate from the University of Richmond, where he played baseball. He was named to the 2nd team All Atlantic 10 Outfielder while at U of R, and in 2004, he led the Spiders with a .335 batting average and 15 HBPs. Coach AJ also set a Richmond record with 10 RBIs in one game!

Pat Siebenlistbaseball

A Gaithersburg native, Pat Siebenlist is a rising junior and right-handed pitcher for the Bates College Bobcats in Lewiston, Maine. Coach Pat graduated from Bullis in 2009. While there he pitched and played outfield. Pat also played in the Koa/Next Level baseball program for 4 seasons.

Coach Evers Burns has been involved in basketball for more than 30 years, playing and coaching.  Evers attended Woodlawn High School in Baltimore and, in addition to basketball, was a heavily recruited All American football player.  Because basketball was his true passion, he decided to stay local and pursue his dream of playing basketball for the University of Maryland Terrapins.  Following his successful career at Maryland, he was drafted and played professionally for the NBA’s Sacramento Kings, and later went on to play in the CBA and overseas.  Evers has coached at Howard Community College and Suitland High School and is excited to be part of the Koa Sports team!

Daniel Lustigbasketball

As a standout two-sport athlete at Alexandria Monroe High School in Indiana, Daniel earned four varsity letters in tennis and two in basketball.  In 1998 during his junior season, he led his high school team to the Class II-A State Championship and then to the semifinals his senior year. Daniel joined the Notre Dame basketball team, as a senior year walk-on, for the 2002-03 season in which they finished with a 24-10 record and a trip to the NCAA Sweet Sixteen. Daniel graduated with a degree in electrical engineering and as a better athlete.

Since graduating, Daniel has been a volunteer coach for Holy Trinity School in Georgetown working with kids in grades 3-6.  Daniel joins Koa with a high level of enthusiasm and a sincere appreciation for the sport of basketball. He continues to help young athletes reach their highest potential.

Antoine White is a man for all sports!  A Walt Whitman HS graduate, this Viking played JV Baseball, Lax, Football (3 years) and Basketball (4 years)!!  Antoine’s hoops highlights include, starting point guard on the 2006 State Championship Team and the best record as Starting Point Guard at Whitman (38-15)!!

Antoine brings plenty of coaching experience to Koa with 2 years of AAU basketball for the Bethesda Bobcats, and 4 seasons of summer league basketball for Churchill and Whitman!!  And have you seen Coach Antoine on the flag field?  We can’t tell who’s having more fun – the coach or the kids!!

Jerrell Herring

Jerrell started his hoops career right here in the DC Metro area playing ball at Largo High School for one year.  He moved to Memphis and played there for a year before returning to this area to play his last two years at Takoma Academy where he won MVP of the year.  After graduating from high school, Jerrell played at Edward Walters College in Jacksonville, Florida.  While there he was the league leader in scoring with 27.8 points per game. He went on to play at Williamson Trade School College in Media, PA where he had a season high of 29 points and 5 dunks. Jerrell has played with and against some of the best including Kevin Durant, Jarrett Jack, James White and Delonte West to namejust a few! When he's not coaching for Koa, Jerrell stays in the game today in area men's leagues and is averaging 20 point per game!

Jamaal Clarke

Jamaal has played sports all of his life! A 2004 Prince George (Virginia) High School graduate, Jamaal went on to play D-1 basketball at VCU and several other schools. He also played collegiate baseball his senior year at Virginia Intermont College. After college, Jamaal had an opportunity to play basketball over-seas in Puerto Rico. In addition to playing, Jamaal has coached at summer hoops camps for USC, UNC Charlotte, Florida State and Va Tech. He also has managed to get in some peewee football and high school baseball coaching experience as well. Coach Jamaal loves to give back to the youth of our area and he continues to have a passion for being involved with sports.

Chad Bakerbaseball

Coach Chad is a two sport coach for Koa with a solid background in basketball and baseball. In high school, Chad was a 4 year letterman in both basketball and baseball and was All-Metro Athletic Conference (MAC) in both. He owns the rebounding record for Canfield High School and in his senior year, Chad was First Team All Leaugue and All County. Chad returned to his alma mater to coach freshman basketball. 

In college, Chad pitched two years at the University of Pittsburgh where he was both a starter and reliever and was 5-0 in 19 career appearances. As a sophomore, Chad was the team representative on the Student Athletic Advisory Committee

Coach Chad Transferred from Pitt to Ohio State where graduated with and Economics degree.  In addition to coaching with Koa Sports, Chad is currently working towards a Master's In Public Administration.

Nick Christakos

Coach Nick is one of Koa's most experienced coaches, having coached basketball at a high level in the DC area for 15 years.  His many teams have competed successfully in almost every league in the area, including the Capital Beltway League, Mo. Co. Rising Star League, Mo. Co. Summer High School League, Force One League, Flames Fall League, Paradigm Athletics League, and others.  For the last two years, Nick has worked with the Walter Johnson HS Varsity and JV teams in spring, summer and fall leagues, and has coached elements of the Whitman HS JV team in the Seniors Division of the I-270 League.  In addition, his teams have won or placed second in area tournaments, and many of his players have gone on to highly successful high school and college hoops careers. 

In his high school days in Des Moines, Iowa, Nick was team captain and the number one player on the Varsity tennis team, and took second place in the 18U Division of the Des Moines Junior Jaycees Pepsi Cola Tennis Tournament in 1974.  Later in college, and going in a slightly different direction, Nick became captain of the Harvard Table Tennis Team, leading his team to the Northeast Intercollegiate Table Tennis League championship in 1978.

Bryan Joel

Meet coach Bryan, 2 year varsity player for the Walt Whitman Vikings basektball team. As a senior, Bryan was a starting point guard and team captain. After graduation, Bryan will be playing point guard at Caltech. Bryan has spent the last 4 summers as a coach/counselor for Coach Lun's Fast Break Basketball Camp and he'll be working with Coach Lun again this summer. He also enjoys coaching one-on-one training with middle school players.

Bryan's a huge fan of college hoops and when he's not playing, he's rooting for either the Wolverines or the Princeton Tigers -- keeping to family loyalties!

A Charles County athlete, Tim Mack grew up playing football and basketball in the area leagues. A 1991 graduate of Lackey HS, Coach Tim played football and hoops for the Chargers. After graduation, Tim went on to study at Montgomery College. Tim's coaching experience includes Head Coach for the Upwards Sports program within the Charles Co. Community Rec Center as well as a coach for the Charles Co Parks and Rec Department for the 17 and under kids. Coach Tim loves seeing hard work pay off!

As a kid, Coach Aris played soccer, baseball and basketball throughout Montgomery County. A 2002 graduate of Walter Johnson HS in Bethesda, Aris played baseball for the Wildcats. One of his proudest moments was when he first made the JV team through hard work and dedication! After high school, Aris went on to study Communications at Concordia University and graduated in 2008. An experienced youth coach, Aris has been coaching kids for over 8 years, including his boys MoCo Rec basketball team he coached from the time they were in 4th grade until they were in 9th grade! Coach Aris loves coaching and teaching kids how to play a sport while at the same time respecting the game and their opponents.

Potomac resident and 2011 Churchill Grad, Coach Jesse already has an impressive athletic resume. Jesse was a 3 year varsity letterman for the Bulldgos football and basketball teams and a varsity baseball player as well. He says he feels like a seasoned veteran. Jesse coaches flag football, hoops and baseball for Koa and bring his enthusiasm and athletic versatility to all of our programs.

Mark Woodfordfootballsoftball

Coach Mark started playing basketball when he was only 6. He played for his local rec department and for the AAU organization. Although basketball is Coach Mark's favorite sport, this 2002 Oxon Hill HS grad also played softball for one year as well as flag football. After high school Mark attended University of Maryland Eastern Shore and Prince Georges Community College. Mark brings his skills and knowledge of basketball (and football) to his coaching. Ask him which NBA players he has competed with over the years!

A Montgomery County native, Coach Jasper played football for the Colonels at Magruder High School. Not one to limit himself, Jasper also played select baseball and then went on to play Junior College basketball. A 2008 graduate of University of Maryland Eastern Shore, Coach Jasper is psyched to bring his energy and sports knowledge to the kids.

Coach Eric is a lifelong long athelete with a love of sports. He has been playing organized sports since age 7. Eric started playing Little League baseball in the third grade. He also played youth football and recreational basketball. In 2002, Eric started coaching youth basketball for his church and did so for 5 years. But Eric hasn't left the game, when he's not coaching, you can find Eric participating in area men's league hoops!

Coach Dan grew up loving sports! He played hoops, soccer and lacrosse from the time he was young. A 2004 graduate of Penfield HS in Rochester, NY, Dan lettered in both soccer and lax. In high school he was part of the Monroe County Lacrosse Championship team. Dan went on to study at SUNY, Oneonta where he got his degree in sports management and kept playing his favorite sports. While at SUNY, he began coaching JV lacrosse. Throughout his time in college he also organized hoops tournaments and coached rec soccer. Dan has translated his love of sports into a passion for coaching kids.

Mike Sladefootballbasketballbaseball

Coach Mike is a Montgomery County athlete and graduate of Paint Branch High School.  At PBHS, Mike played football and was a member of the Panthers’ track team.  Mike continued his football career while attending West Virginia State University where he received his Business Management and Administration Degree.  At WVSU, he was a 4 year starter at nose guard.  Since graduating, Mike has kept sports in his life with softball, flag football, basketball and racing dirt bikes. 

As a parent, Mike has coached baseball, basketball and football for 6 years, with 2 years as a baseball commissioner.  While seeking out the best opportunities for his oldest son to learn the great sport of baseball, Mike found Koa Sports!  After sitting on the sidelines watching the Koa staff have all the fun, Mike decided to join Koa Sports in 2011 and was dubbed “The Legend.” When he’s not coaching, Mike is currently a Systems Engineer at NASA.  Coach Mike still believes "you can teach life through sports, and hard work offers rewards that last a lifetime.”

Terrance Williamsfootballbaseballbasketball

Meet Coach Terrance, a native Washingtonian and multi-sport player! He grew up right here in D.C. and from the time he was little played every sport he could including soccer, basketball, baseball and football! Terrance attended St. Albans from 4-12th grade. After middle school hoops and baseball, he was a two year Varsity player for St. A's Football and Track & Field teams. In his senior year, he led the Bulldogs to an IAC Track Championship placing 2nd in discus! After graduation, Terrance prepped at Phillips Exeter Academy where he continued his track and field magic leading the team to their first NEPSTA Track & Field championship this decade. As the #2 discus in New England, Terrance was inducted into the school's Hall of Fame. Coach Terrance graduated from the University of Michigan with an Economics degree and when he's not coaching, he's pursuing a career in real estate finance.

Dwight Phyallfootballlax stix

Another one of Koa's multi-sport atheletes, Coach Dwight was a 3 season player during his high school years. A 2002 graduate of the Friends Academy, Dwight  played Varsity basketball for 2 years and lax for 3. As a 4 year football player, Dwight was All-County, All-Conference and Captain. After high school, Dwight went on to play at Dickinson College for 4 years and also served as the Red Devils' team captain. Dwight's proudest moment -- winning the Centennial Conference Title and the "Wearin' the Red" award! After Dickinson, Coach Dwight earned his Masters in Education from Goucher College. With his commitment to teaching the game positively, Coach Dwight embodies the Koa spirit!

Jim Kuhn football

Jim Kuhn is Head Coach and steward of the Whitman Football program. Coach Kuhn brings his extensive football coaching experience to a job that is incredibly demanding. This will be his 13th year coaching football at Whitman. Coach Kuhn also headed up Whitman's Varsity Baseball team for 10 years.

His work on the field is rivaled only by his work in the classroom. For the past 15 years, Coach Kuhn has taught in Whitman's Math Department. His dedication has earned him the respect of his peers, students, and parents. Coach Kuhn is a native of Battle Creek, Michigan. He graduated from the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor with a B.S. in Kinesiology. He received his post graduate degree in Teaching from Western Michigan and pursued additional studies at Johns Hopkins.

Coach Kuhn and his wife, Kate, have been married 19 years and have two children.  Henry is a student at Whitman and Jake is at Pyle Middle School.

Cameron Dantleyfootballbasketballbaseball

Cameron Dantley is a flat out sports enthusiast, playing football, hoops, and baseball since he was 5 years old.  While at St. Albans high school (Grades 4-12), he helped lead his varsity basketball team to an IAC title his senior year. He also played 4 years at QB, (Captain Sr. year), throwing for 2,850 yards and 28 TDs in his senior season. Cameron was named All Met Honorable Mention for the D.C. metro area his senior year and named IAC All-League as a junior. At Phillips Exeter Academy for post-grad (2005), he was a first team All-New England pick at QB and earned team MVP honors as well in football and basketball.  Cameron then went on to play QB at Syracuse University where he played in 17 career games and threw for over 2,000 yards and 16 TDs. 

After graduating with a psychology degree, Cameron went on to play one season of arena football, and is still pursuing a football career.  He also trains young kids in various sports and has begun personal training as well.  This is Coach Cameron’s first year with Koa Sports, and he's very excited about working with up and coming kids who are psyched about athletics.

Grant Hartanovfootballbaseball

Chicago native and scholar-athlete Grant Hartanov graduated with honors from Denison University where he played and started at Free Safety on the football team.  Grant is also a certified personal trainer and has competed in both olympic weightlifting and strongman competitions.  In the fall of 2011, Grant will begin to coach varsity football at Walt Whitman HS in Bethesda. Grant brings his collegiate player experience and coaching expertise to Koa's flag football and baseball programs.

When he's not coaching, Grant is working to complete his Masters degree from The Johns Hopkins University in May 2011 and works for the Department of Defense.

Dwight Perryfootballbasketball

A North Caroline native, Coach Dwight graduated from David W. Butler HS in Matthews, NC in 2002 where he played football and basketball for the Bulldogs. Dwight was also an AAU player and made it to Nationals at 15 and 16! He went on to play football and basketball the first couple of years of college but a serious injury ended his career. Not ready to give up sports, Dwight has embraced coaching including rec and AAU level basketball as well as flag football. When he's not coaching for Koa, Dwight is continuing his studies in political science and business. Coach Dwight likes to teach kids about commitment, dedication, passion, drive and selflessness -- it's all about the team and goals!
