April 2019 Newsletter!

Koa Families,

I’m a huge NFL combine fan I love watching massive athletes run fast, and speedy athletes lift superhuman amounts of weight.  The NFL draft has to be the most impactful of the 4 major sports and has morphed into a 3-day event. How the NFL has become relevant 24/7- 365 is just amazing.  The 2019 host city Nashville, replaced the word event with spectacle. The mostly outdoor crowd featured 150,000 + crazy & screaming fans from all 32 franchises. WOW!  Rarely does Radar Online and ESPN report the same news, the 2019 NFL draft somehow found a way to crossover. Thursday evening, minutes before the draft my wife (who doesn’t care for sports) was telling me about  “fashion choices” from potential top picks such as Kyler Murray and his white shoes. As well as other players featuring 3 piece suits, capri pants, sleeveless jackets, etc… A Who’s Who list read draft cards of young 20 somethings that included- the hated and always booed NFL commissioner, various Hall of Fame players, Make a Wish recipients, and more.

HOPE drives these crazy fans!  Draft attendees believe their team’s first-round selection will become a game-changing franchise player like Peyton Manning or Khalil Mack and then stick around until day 3 to see if who will be the late round steal like Tom Brady.  The athletes that are lucky enough to hear their name called, it’s an evening to celebrate the fruits of their labor. There are so many different paths to become a successful professional (athlete or not) what cannot be forgotten is all the hard work along the way.  I read an article about an NFL player who went undrafted and his words are perfect to share with your aspiring athlete. The crux of the message is hard work, dedication, failure, and success are all part of the journey. It doesn’t matter if you are a star football player at Alabama or top in your class at Harvard, there are plenty of ways to achieve your goals.  These stories are why I love sports, and have such a passion for what I do.
