Flag Football With Koa Sports
“Crabcakes and football. That’s what Maryland does!”
This quote from the movie Wedding Crashers has become very commonly used in the area, and while Koa may not be able to do crabcakes that well, we DO know how to do football!
The focus of our league is two-fold: GET BETTER and HAVE FUN. As opposed to the hyper-competitive sports culture that’s crept onto so many playing fields, we view flag football as an equal-opportunity sports experience for any child who wants to play. This means shared playing time and an opportunity to play a number of different positions. The goal of this league isn’t to groom players for the NFL — this is a chance for kids from the neighborhood to come together and have a good time playing a great sport.

Flag Football Seasons:
This league begins in mid March and is a great way to get your football fix in the off-season. Players can choose the sport that is right for them, and continue to build upon skills picked up in the fall. For more information on the Spring season, click here.
Olney Flag Football has a new player coming its way in Fall 2017: Koa Sports League! This will be Koa’s first flag football season in Olney, but nowhere near our first flag football season. Koa Flag Football has operated out of the Bethesda area for more than 10 seasons, and it’s time to bring the fun to Olney!
Koa’s Flag Football program stands out from a preparation standpoint. All of the background work is done by full-time staff members, including team assignments, scheduling, uniforms, coaching, etc. Olney Flag Football with Koa will mean competing in real jerseys, with real referees, with teams coached by real, trained, professional coaches.

Frequently Asked Questions:
Absolutely. During the registration process, either simply list the players’ names in the “teammate requests” or “comments/notes” box or create a creative team-name and have all the players list that. We’ll make sure they all end up together. However, we do try to limit the number of players on one team to 10.
Done deal. We have a huge number of “free-agents” each year and we’re more than happy to place them on a team with other kids their age. It’s a really inclusive environment and your child will fit in easily.
Yes, but we can’t guarantee a spot on that roster. We’re usually able to fill out parent coached teams and find a volunteer but that’s not always the case. In the event there aren’t enough players (or no parent volunteers), we’ll transfer you to a Koa-Coached team and ask you to pay the difference.
No. Saturday or Sunday (depending on your choice) is the only day of football and you’ll both practice and play in that time window
We rent fields from Montgomery County to play our games. If they close fields due to inclement weather, we will have to postpone games. Each season will have one make-up week at the end, if necessary.
NO. We’re absolutely committed to making flag football a positive environment for everyone to enjoy. This is NOT a league for parents to live through their children or take away from the kids’ experience.
Counter-intuitively, yes. We set a registration date so we can make our operational plan for the season. You can still sign up after the registration deadline, but you will be charged a late registration fee to cover the administrative costs of entering the player individually.
If you cancel your registration after the registration close date and find someone to take your spot, we’ll refund you 80% of the program cost in cash. If you cancel your registration after the registration close date and fail to find someone to take your spot, we’ll credit your Koa account with 80% of the cost.
Once the season is started, we only issue refunds under extremely extenuating circumstances.
