Fall BABL Opening Day – 2019

Opening Day Fall 2019

 

After a long summer, baseball is back at Koa! All our teams took the field for what turned out to be a beautiful Saturday for baseball. Opening day was packed with playoff rematches and some outstanding performances on the mound and at the plate!

BABL A:

Legends vs. Hot Rods

The Legends came out strong in their season opener with a 15-3 win over the Hot Rods. Nick G. for the Legends set the tone on the mound racking up 6 strikeouts. Adam K. had a three-run home run and Nolan N. came up with a big two-run single to lead the Legend’s hot bats. Eric F. came on the mound to finish off the game for the Legends. While the Legends came up on top, it was a close game for the first two innings with the Hot Rods up 3-2. Ari G. doubled in the top of the first to score a run. The Hot Rods struggled on the mound, giving up 10 walks, but are ready for this weekend!

Bees vs. Lugnuts

Bees fall to the defending champions, Lugnuts, 9-4. The Bees struggled to find the strike zone early in the game giving up 8 runs in the first inning. Ruby B. kept the Bees in the game, but the deficit was too large to overcome. Rafi C. of the Lugnuts showed great leadership by being the loudest in the dugout and brought the energy needed to kick off the season for the Lugnuts.

Legends vs. Bees

After being down 8-1, the Bees found a way to chip away but ended up falling short to the Legends 10-6. Max F. pitched beautifully for the Bees but struggled to get outs in his second inning of work. Unfortunately, some defensive mishaps allowed the Bees to give up 8 runs. Jaymes A. pitched 2 solid innings for the Legends with a two-run double. Jackson A. had 2 RBI and Alex B. added another with a run scoring double. The Legends whole team found a way to contribute as every player got on base!

Lugnuts vs. Riverdogs

Riverdogs watched the game slip away early and couldn’t recover in a 7-4 loss to the Lugnuts. Lugnuts got things moving in the first inning, when Flynn F. singled on a 1-1 count, scoring one run. Jack got the start for Lugnuts; he lasted two innings, allowing zero hits and zero runs while striking out six and walking zero. Lugnuts big 4th inning was driven by singles from Lucas A., Zain S., Flynn, and Rafe D. Izaak F led Lugnuts with three stolen bases, as they ran wild on the base paths with nine stolen bases.  Lugnuts did not commit a single error in the field!

 

Riverdogs biggest inning was the fourth where they brought in four runs. Riverdogs offense in the fourth was led by Mitchell H., Topher T., and Eoghan M! Topher T. toed the rubber for Riverdogs as he went two innings, allowing two runs on four hits, striking out six, and walking zero. Daniel P.,Nathan W., and Mac W. each contributed in relief for Riverdogs.

BABL AA:

Biscuits vs. Bay Sox

Bay Sox beat the Biscuits in a 8-6 competitive opening day match up. Bay Sox pitchers Taisei K. and Isaac M. tossed four scoreless innings that allowed the Bay Sox to take an 8-2 lead. Drew L. from the Biscuits hit a triple early on in the game getting the Biscuits on the board! The Biscuits rallied in the top of the 6th scoring four runs bringing it to 8-6. It was a merry-go-round of walks with two outs sprinkled in, until Baysox’s Keisuke K. came out of the pen to induce a flair to 2nd base to end the game with the bases loaded. Biscuits could not get off the big hit they needed with bases loaded to win the game. Grayson T. was forced to catch for the Biscuits after their starting catcher had an injury and he did an outstanding job!

Lookouts vs. Thunder

Lookouts watched the game slip away after a 6-0 lead in the top of the fourth, losing to the Thunder 10-7. Led by Jake R. and Sam R., the Lookouts were dominating the whole game on the mound. However, the Lookouts collapsed in the last inning. In the bottom of the 4th, Thunder cut the lead to 6-4 with Hunter M. leading off with single followed a single from Ryan S. and a 2RBI single from Ethan H. Thunder took the lead in the bottom of the 5th with the help of hard singles by Marcelo S., Everett C., Hannah S. and Grant LGame was called due to time.

BABL AAA:

Red Wings vs. Iron Pigs

The Iron Pigs struggled in the first game of the season, dropping their championship rematch to the Red Wings 18-2. Iron Pig pitchers struggled to silence the bats of the Red Wings, as Justin G. lead the way with a three-run homer. Nathan M. caught the entire game and had a great defensive game for the Iron Pigs behind the plate.

Bulls vs. Mud Hens

Bulls defeat Mud Hens after an intense back and forth battle. Bulls and Mud Hens played a taut affair on Saturday, but Bulls eventually prevailed 12-8. The game was tied at eight with Bulls batting in the top of the fifth when Michael L. drew a walk, forcing in a run. Both offenses were strong at the plate as Bulls collected eight hits and Mud Hens seven in the high-scoring match up.

 

Noah W. got the start for Bulls. He surrendered five runs on five hits over two innings, striking out three. Bulls totaled eight hits with Bobby B. and Robert D. each racking up multiple hits. Bulls stole eight bases during the game with Zachary B. leading the charge with two. Gabe S. started for the Mudhens with a strong showing on the mound. Mud Hen’s player Noah S. went 2-2 with two singles and a walk. What a game!

Tides vs. Iron Pigs 

Tides defeated the Iron Pigs 7-6 in a competitive well-played game by both teams. Brayden R. from the Tides had an awesome triple RBI with the bases loaded and two outs. In the top of the 5th, William M. from the Tides was able to stop the Iron Pigs from making a comeback with the bases loaded. Dorian S. for the Iron Pigs pitched 3 strong innings allowing only 2 runs. This one was a nail biter!
