U12 Goes Undefeated at Spark Tournament!!

Blog #19.5

After a second place finish at the United Sports tournament, the U12 club team was looking forward to a second chance for a championship. Following a great week of practice, the girls were excited and ready for competition. In game one, the girls showed great resilience against a great host team, Spark White. Spark white scored first which only turned up the heat, and Koa responded with their own first goal of the game. With five minutes left the girls secured the win with a second goal, playing exceptional defense until the end. Filled with momentum and excitement the girls had only 5 minutes until game 2!

In game 2, U12 played with such togetherness. Jaimie Lee showed great leadership in holding down the defense as Sarah Walker held the middle and controlled the flow of the team. The girls played smart and fast, securing a convincing win against team Alpha.

In Game 3, Koa had found their rhythm, the girls dominated the Infinity FH team with a beautiful team effort. Captains Stevie Zonarich and Georgia Lindenauer lead the girls in a 7-0 win.  Forwards Jenna Goldberg and Junia Whang, also showed great play up front. Carter Davis, Gracie Lombardo and Anna Arnold combined for a couple goals in the great win!

For game 4, the girls wanted a different result than last week, after playing three great games, they wanted to go undefeated and take home the gold. Philly HC did not make it easy. The team, led by goalie Leia Neilson, played a close game of 0-0 until the final 5 minutes when Koa was awarded a penalty stroke!! Gillian Rosenstock stepped up and sent a beautiful shot to put the girls up 1-0!! The girls showed great disciple and fight in the final minutes of the game to secure four wins and the champions!!

Gillian Rosenstock’ s  game winning stroke!

We are so proud of all the progress and hard work the U12 team has put in this season. We are so excited for Howard County this weekend and the USA Field Hockey National Indoor Tournament the following weekend. The girls are playing at a high level with amazing positivity and team work. Making statements as a young team to never give up!

Rule of the Week

Lifts/Raised Ball:

During the indoor season, lifting the ball rarely occurs! The ONLY time the ball may be lifted is a shot on goal. A lifted shot on goal is allowed when the attacker is inside the circle and their initial shot on goal is a lift. If the ball is lifted at all outside the circle, it is a foul.

Signal: The ref will signal a lift by holding their palms facing each other horizontally in front of the body, with one palm raised above the other.
