The Winter RL Season is Over & the Champions Have Claimed Their Medals!
Every final session of a rec league season, all of the teams come together and compete in a tournament style play day to see who will be crowned RL Champions!
The Play Day is always a favorite among the players and coaches! Who doesn’t love playing games all day?!?! This winter season was one to remember! All of the teams this season worked so hard and it was great to watch all of the players’ progress. Coaches really do appreciate when players come prepared to work hard and listen.
2nd & 3rd Grade
To start the play day off, 2nd & 3rd grade come first and play from 9:00am – 10:30am. First the group started with their team talks. All of the teams discussed their team goal and how they were going to accomplish it during the games. Next, the group played Steal the Bacon! This is always a favorite and requested by the players 🙂 Finally, the games started!! All of the teams showed great determination and really came together as a unit on the court.
In the end, it was Team Sea Turtles that would take the overall win and first place!!
Congrats Team Sea Turtles for winning the championship and going undefeated for the day!!
Next to step onto the court was the 4th & 5th Grade Teams! These teams were full of energy and positivity! If you were in this gym, you were cheering every game! These players challenged one another and each game was a fight to the finish! Just like the 2nd & 3rd Grade, the teams started with team talks and reviewing their team goal. After discussing how they were going to win their games, the teams played Steal the Bacon! Up next, the games!! Every game was a battle and every team showed that they wanted to be Champions! The final game was Team Penguins and Team Alligators. Team Alligators put up a strong fight! The championship game ended with a final score of 3 – 2, giving Team Penguins the win.
Team Penguins finished the day 3 – 0 and was crowned the Champions of Winter RL!
Congratulations Team Penguins for claiming the championship title!!!
The next tournament to begin was the Novice Group! Eight teams came ready to play! Even though some teams had a few players missing, these teams worked SO hard and did not give up for one second!! All the teams came together, discussed game strategies and bonded together. These teams really valued each other and took pride in being a team! Through all the sweat and determination, the final championship game came down to two teams: Team Huskies and Team Eagles. Both teams played with strong stick skills, powerful aggression and smart game strategies.
In the end, Team Huskies would be crowned Champions of Rec League!!
Congrats Team Huskies!! You all fought hard for the title and medals!!
To end the day, our older Experienced teams would now fight for the Championship! Just as in the Novice League, there were a few players from teams that could not be there. That did not stop each team from chasing down each ball, making a pull or communicating to their teammates! When it comes to the play day, you have to work with what you are given!! Our Experienced teams are just that, Experienced! These teams showed tremendous improvement in overall game play and teamwork. The final game was between Team Argentina and Team Ireland! Team Ireland had enough team spirit for both teams and Team Argentina had lots of family cheering for them!!
The results concluded that Team Argentina would be named RL Champions!!!
Congratulations Team Argentina for never giving up and fighting for the Championship Title!!
This winter really was a great season! Every single team possessed Koa’s 4 core values! During the play day, all teams were Positive and cheering for each other! The coaches saw Team First throughout the season, when the team would discuss their team goal. All of the teams were Dedicated and determined to win the Championship!! Overall, all the players were FUN and it was a FUN season!!!Thank you all for a great season and we hope to see you this spring!!!

Rule of the Week
Used to restart play when possession is unclear when play was stopped (e.g. injury timeout). Two opposing players start with their sticks on the ground, the ball is placed between them, and they must tap sticks above the ball before they can play the ball.
Signal: To indicate a bully, a ref will move your hands up and down in front of their body, alternating each one with their palms facing each other.
