Motivating the Unmotivated

As we near the end of the season, we want you to have that fire that you had when you first stepped foot on the field in September.

Maintaining your motivation throughout the season can be difficult; but, we know that you can be the spark your team needs to bring back the energy and end the season on a high note.

If your whole team seems unmotivated, try putting together a team sleepover. Watch movies together, get popcorn, eat pizza, and then come up with a cool team-bonding exercise. Perhaps each person can write motivational quotes on a piece of paper and give it to one another, or write goals for post-season and next season. The team can also come up with a plan on how to carry out practice for the remainder of the season in a positive way.

Try talking to your coach about your concerns. We know that all teams want to have a positive ending to the season, so partner with your coach and find ways to make practice a bonding experience. Team up with someone you have not worked with before for whatever drill your doing in practice. Again, everyone wants to feel included, so do your best to make someone feel important so that they’ll be excited for next season.

If you have a teammate who seems unmotivated try offering a bit of encouragement. Pull them aside before or after practice and ask them how they are doing or how they think the season went. Be a friend to them because that is most likely what they need.
