Shooting

Stephen Curry’s jump shot is a work of art.

However, unlike a Rembrandt, a Picasso or a Van Gogh, it’s possible for those who have the dedication to come close to recreating his beautifully effective tear drop shooting arc without removing an ear or committing copyright infringement.

How do we do this? Repetition of course. Practice does not make perfect, but perfect practice does. While absolute perfection is impossible, core reps of fundamentally sound shooting technique is the only way a player like Stephen Curry develops his incredible shot. Believe it or not, Curry wasn’t born with this shot; he created it. After years of painstaking work, he completely reinvented his shooting technique into what it is today.

You may not be the most athletic, the most flashy, or the best defender in the world, but if you can shoot consistently and well, coaches will find a spot for you on the floor. Kyle Korver has made a career out of it, as have many other NBA players in the league for the long term. From NBA all-stars to JV players pushing for a starting spot, if you want to succeed, you’ve got to learn to shoot!
