All Three Club Teams Place at Columbus Day Tournament!

Weekend Recap of Potomac Rapids Columbus Day Tournament!

The Koa U14 Elite, U14 White, and U12 team suited up for the Potomac Rapids Columbus Day Tournament in Leesburg, VA yesterday.  The teams cleaned up as the U14 teams took first and third place in their age bracket and the U12 team finished second.

U14 Elite

The U14 Elite team finished first in the U14 pool and went 3-1 on the day!  Unfortunately the goalkeeper for the U14 Elite team was out sick (feel better Emma!), so two U14 White players stepped up to fill in as goalkeeper.  Both Shayna Allentoff and Joey Doherty did an awesome job of filling in and helping the team to a 3-1 day! In regular pool play the Koa girls lost to the Potomac Rapids but really turned it up in the rematch as they beat the hosting Potomac Rapids in the Championship game.  Coach Rachel Freeland was thrilled with her team and noted that they showed great determination throughout the tournament!

U14 White

The U14 White team was 3-1 and their only loss was to the U14 Elite team!  Coach Jen Pappas congratulates her team most on the improvement since the spring.  “The team really played together as a team, moved up and down the field as a unit and focused on the goals that we set for ourselves at the beginning of each game” claims Pappas. At the end of the day they finished in third place after beating Next Level in the bronze medal match.

U12

The U12 team went undefeated in regular pool play and played Metro in the Championship game.  They beat Metro in the regular pool play 2-0, but despite a hard fought first place battle they loss to them in shootouts to place second. Sadhbh Merriman, the goalie for Koas’s U12, did an awesome job of keeping the shootouts going until the third round. Coach Katie Gerbes was very proud of her team:  “The team came together and played beautifully. A lot of the girls really stepped up to play different positions than they usually do, and as a result we found some new spots that some of them excel in. All of our wins were true team wins, which is the best possible scenario!”. The U12 team is looking forward to gaining some revenge at Koa’s tournament this weekend at Stone Ridge.
